Intravenous Sedation from a Compassionate and Highly Qualified Dentist

Photo of an IV dripIf you struggle with dental anxiety, or if you are preparing for a lengthy procedure, we offer several sedation methods. Nitrous oxide and oral sedation can both be very effective. However, at My Saratoga Dentist, PLLC, we are particularly proud to offer intravenous sedation to patients in Saratoga Springs, NY, and the surrounding areas. With intravenous (IV) sedation, Dr. Ryan Osinski can provide customized, adjusted medication specific for your needs. In addition, Dr. Osinski is one of only two percent of dentists in the State of New York who can administer IV sedation. When you come to our practice, you will know you are in experienced, qualified hands.

What Is Intravenous Sedation?

IV sedation uses medical drips and an IV line to bring gentle, safe anti-anxiety medication straight into your bloodstream. This process eliminates the delay and unreliable metabolism of oral or inhaled forms of sedation.  Typically we can provide conscious IV sedation, allowing you to respond to direction or questions, but remain very relaxed. When the sedatives wear off,  you typically should remember very little of your visit, if any. Intravenous sedation will take a while to leave your system fully, and you should find a ride to and from your appointment.

Are You a Candidate for IV Sedation?

IV sedation can be especially appropriate if you suffer from severe dental anxiety or dental phobia. With this condition, even the thought of a dental visit can cause dread. You may feel nauseated, have difficulty sleeping, or have a racing heartbeat before a dental appointment. You may even have neglected dental treatment for many years because of your phobia. Intravenous sedation can put your fears to rest so that you can receive the care you need. Additionally, we may recommend intravenous sedation if you are preparing for extensive dental work or a surgical procedure, or have difficulty sitting for long periods of time. IV sedation is especially beneficial for invasive procedures such as dental implant placement, bone grafting, or wisdom tooth removal.

Dr. Osinksi is one of a very select number of dentists in the state qualified to offer intravenous sedation.

The Benefits of IV Sedation

Though we can provide various types of sedation dentistry, intravenous sedation offers several unique benefits. Dr. Osinski can regulate the levels of medication continually. In this way, he can ensure that you stay comfortable the entire time. He will also monitor your blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen levels, and other vital signs. Because he will reduce the medications as needed, intravenous sedation involves very few risks. In addition, the medications will go directly into your bloodstream. As a result, they will take effect quickly, and the outcome can be very predictable.

An Outstanding Choice for Your Dental Care

Intravenous sedation requires experience and extreme precision. When you receive IV sedation from an untrained practitioner, it can have major health risks. However, this treatment is very safe when administered by an experienced dentist.  Dr. Osinski is certified in Advanced Cardiac Life Support. He also received New York State certification in parenteral/IV sedation. Consequently, he is one of a very select number of dentists in the state qualified to offer these medications.
